Modern Manufacturing Technology Has Made Fake Luxury Watches Even Harder To Spot

The advancement of technology has resulted in our manufacturing process becoming a lot more efficient compared to back in the day. This means that products are produced at a much faster rate than before with fewer defects. Unfortunately, it seems that the advancement of our manufacturing technology has resulted in an unintended negative consequence: higher-quality, harder-to-detect fake luxury goods.

According to the folks at Watchfinder & Co., they have taken the Rolex as an example and found that due to the advancements we’ve made to manufacturing, being able to tell a fake Rolex apart from the real one just got harder. This is because manufacturing tech has gotten advanced to the point where instead of merely slapping the Rolex brand name on fake watches, these pirates have also managed to replicate the mechanisms used in a Rolex watch, making it almost as accurate as the real thing, while only charging a fraction of the price.

This means that unless you’re a real expert at being able to tell fake watches apart from the real ones, there is a chance that you could end up walking away with a very well-produced fake, especially if you’re buying from a less-than-reputable source. This does not mean that fakes are completely fool-proof, but rather it seems that they have become good enough where it might take more than just looking at the innards to determine the real from the fake.

If you have a few minutes to spare, you might want to check out Watchfinder & Co.’s video above which compares a fake and real Rolex next to each other.
