The 33-year-old woman used the cash to fund an extravagant lifestyle.
A 33-year-old woman siphoned almost £40,000 (Dh190,000 approx) out of the technology company she worked at in Derby and splurged it on Louis Vuitton bags, Rolex watches and Gucci shoes.
Hasnija Osmanagic admitted to stealing cash from business accounts and transferring the money into her own personal account over a period of 17 months. She has been sentenced to 15 months in jail on April 10 after the Derby Crown Court heard she used the cash to fund an extravagant lifestyle, reported Mirror.co.uk.
Osmanagic stole £39,812 between June 2016 and October 2017 and was caught out when her bosses noticed that company money had been moved to accounts they did not recognise. She was dismissed from her role at the company and the matter was referred to Action Fraud and then on to the specialist fraud department at Derbyshire Constabulary.
Detective Constable, Gavin Owen, said, “I am pleased the courts have used their full powers to prosecute Hasnija Osmanagic. She was a person who was entrusted by her employers with information and access that was critical to the running of the business.” Adding that businesses should keep a close eye on employees, the detective said, “I hope this sentence will act as a deterrent to those who think they can get away with acts similar to this and show employers why it is so important to keep a close eye on those they entrust with this type of information.”
Last April, Osmanagic was fined almost £1,000 when she was caught driving her black BMW at 36mph in a 30mph zone. The fine was imposed after she failed to respond to a Notice of Intended Prosecution. Similarly in October 2017, she was also slapped with a £220 fine for speeding at 37mph in a 30mph zone.
